Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The West Java provincial government has distributed 52 thousand doses of the foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccine to combat the disease's potential spread among livestock.

One of the regions in the province that has received the vaccine is Subang district, where the acting governor of West Java, Bey Triadi Machmudin, directly reviewed vaccine distribution, taken as a preventive measure to protect the local livestock population from FMD.

"Livestock vaccination is one of our key efforts to prevent the transmission of FMD," he said during the review in Cisaat village, Subang district, on Tuesday.

The provision of 52 thousand doses of the FMD vaccine was carried out on a massive scale, but its distribution would be done gradually and in a coordinated way, the acting governor added.

"The provincial government has also allocated a budget for the vaccine, and we are working to carry out the distribution gradually to prevent FMD," he said.

Machmudin also revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture has provided an additional 163 thousand doses of the vaccine to support FMD prevention efforts.

With this assistance, the FMD vaccination for livestock will be carried out for free. Farmers will get two doses for their livestock, with the first injection given now and a booster shot administered six months later to enhance the vaccine's effectiveness.

"This vaccination will be provided free of charge to farmers, and will be carried out twice, with the first dose administered now and a second dose given six months later," he said.

Machmudin added that the FMD vaccination aims to improve food security and encourage the livestock sector to remain productive and safe from disease threats.
