"We will organize a series of discussions for about two months. There will be six meetings with all relevant stakeholders," Komidigi Deputy Minister Nezar Patria informed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He said that the government will involve industry players, academicians, the general public, and those belonging to vulnerable groups, such as women and persons with disabilities, in identifying AI-related aspects that need to be regulated.
According to Patria, the plan is to engage all parties involved in the development and use of AI, starting from developers to the end users.
"The results of the discussions will be compiled into a policy paper, which will serve as the basis for academic advice expected to guide the government in formulating a regulation on AI. That is the plan," he added.
Earlier on Monday, Komdigi Minister Meutya Hafid revealed the plan to devise a regulation on the utilization of AI within three months.
She said she has tasked Deputy Minister Patria with driving the formulation of the regulation, which will follow up on the government's circular letter.
The circular provides a guideline on the use of AI, addressing the aspects of transparency, accountability, humanity, respect for copyright, and safety.
"Our plan is to elevate it (the circular) into a level of a regulation. Deputy Minister Nezar Patria is currently working on it," the minister said.
In a ministry press release issued on December 17, 2024, Patria explained that the government is aiming for a regulation that can ensure the responsible use of AI across various sectors, such as education, health, infrastructure, and financial services.
