Jakarta (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) convened a plenary session to discuss the formation of supervision teams for migrant worker protection and disaster response, as well as to review the Mineral and Coal Mining Bill (RUU).

House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad reported that 289 members were physically present at the meeting, while three were absent but counted as present, bringing the total to 292 legislators out of 579, thus meeting the required quorum.

"Can we approve this agenda?" Ahmad inquired, receiving a positive response from the members during the plenary session held at the parliament complex here on Thursday.

He stressed the urgent need to form supervision teams dedicated to safeguarding migrant workers, noting the high interest of Indonesians in working abroad and the various challenges these workers face.

Additionally, these teams will monitor the implementation of recommendations made by previous supervision teams concerning the protection of migrant workers during the 2019-2024 period.

Ahmad also emphasized the critical need to create a supervision team to oversee natural disaster responses, given their increasing frequency, associated casualties, and economic repercussions.

"The two supervision teams will be led by the deputy speaker responsible for people's welfare," he said.

The next item on the agenda involved taking decisions regarding the bill on the Fourth Amendment to Law Number 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining.

"The secretariat general had provided a list of spokespersons from each faction who would share their opinions in sequence," Ahmad noted.
