Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, and her Singaporean counterpart, Seah Kian Peng, have agreed to enhance parliamentary and bilateral relations between their nations.

"We both agreed to maintain, strengthen, and improve the relationship between the parliaments of Indonesia and Singapore, as well as to support the governments of both nations," Maharani remarked after their meeting in Jakarta on Friday.

She revealed that they discussed a wide range of topics, including bilateral cooperation, economic issues, and global dynamics.

"We covered several areas related to bilateral cooperation, inter-parliamentary collaboration, economic partnerships, socio-cultural relations, geopolitical developments, and the international situation," she stated.

Maharani noted that the parliaments of Indonesia and Singapore are aligned in supporting government policies established during both previous and current terms.

"In this new period under the current government, the Indonesian parliament for the 2024-2029 term will support the initiatives of Mr. Prabowo's government," she said.

"We aim to build on the accomplishments of the previous term, continuing all the positive efforts and improving areas that have not yet been addressed," she added.

Maharani emphasized that both parliaments are committed to fostering a safe, peaceful, and stable Southeast Asian region.

"At every international event involving the Indonesian and Singaporean parliaments, we agree to promote initiatives that are beneficial for ASEAN countries and for both nations," she affirmed.
