Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto extended his congratulations to India on the occasion of its 76th Republic Day during a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday.

“To all the people of India, may prosperity and success always be with India,” he stated.

Prabowo expressed his gratitude for being invited as chief guest of India’s 76th Republic Day ceremony, scheduled for Sunday (Jan 26).

He will be the fourth Indonesian president to be invited to the event, which will also feature the historic participation of 352 Indonesian military personnel in the defile and marching band during the Republic Day parade.

“This is the first time the Indonesian military contingent will take part in a military parade outside of Indonesia. So once again, thank you very much for the great honor extended to us,” Prabowo noted.

The president highlighted Indonesia's long-standing friendship with India. He recalled that during Indonesia's fight for independence, India was among its staunchest supporters, providing both financial and medical aid.

“Many Indian leaders supported us in our critical time,” he pointed out.

Prabowo reiterated that the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi is located on land donated by the Indian government, a gesture made before Indonesia gained recognition from numerous other countries.

"This shows the depth of our relationship. Indonesia will never forget this support,” he emphasized.

“We consider this partnership very important, and we would like to enhance and accelerate the level of cooperation between us,” Prabowo concluded.
