Deputy chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Erwin S. Aldedharma, opened the symposium on Monday.
He said that the event, which is taking place from January 27–29, 2025, is a platform for military mental development officers to share experiences.
“With the diversity we have, we can become a role model for other countries that may not have as much diversity,” he added.
The theme of APCS 2025 is “Fostering Peace and Unity through Interfaith Collaboration in the World.”
Through the theme, the event aims to highlight the significant role of the Navy’s mental development officers in developing, maintaining, and strengthening the mental resilience of mariners.
The APCS is not just a discussion forum but also a proactive step toward building interfaith and intercultural collaboration to address global challenges.
Aldedharma expressed the hope that with the spirit of unity and tolerance, the symposium will contribute positively to efforts to create a more peaceful and harmonious world.
He emphasized that the Indonesian Navy, in addition to its military duties, also has a diplomatic responsibility to help maintain world peace, in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
One of the efforts to maintain world peace is promoting mental development and moral strength within each unit.
On the second day of the symposium, participants will be invited to tour places of worship in Jakarta, including the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta Cathedral Church, and various other religious sites at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) Park.
