Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Social Affairs dispatched logistics and a Disaster Preparedness Cadet (Tagana) team to assist victims of the landslide in Mamuju District, West Sulawesi.

"We immediately deployed the Tagana team to the location. They worked together with the local Social Service to evacuate victims, clean up landslide material, and distribute emergency aid," Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf noted in a statement from his office on Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall with high intensity lashed Mamuju on January 26, triggering a landslide in Tamasapi Hamlet, Mamunyu Village, which resulted in two houses being buried, four people killed, and injuries to four others.

"Affected residents will not only receive material assistance but also emotional support to reduce the psychological impact of this tragedy," the minister remarked.

The minister emphasized that his side would continue to assist the community until the recovery process is complete.

"We will work with local governments and various parties to ensure that affected communities receive assistance until they recover. Our commitment is to ensure their safety and well-being," he affirmed.

The logistical assistance sent by the ministry comprised ready-to-eat food, emergency tents, blankets, mats, and other basic necessities for affected communities.

In addition, psychosocial support services are being offered to victims, especially children and families, who have suffered trauma from the incident.

Yusuf appealed to residents in landslide-prone areas to increase their vigilance, especially given the current extreme weather conditions.

Following data collection efforts, the deceased were identified as Nurlela (24), Nasril (40), Aisyah (4), and Salsabila, a toddler.

Syahrul (50), Irawati (40), Fahri (30), and Ajeng (13) were among the injured. They received medical treatment at Bhayangkara Hospital and Mamuju Regional Hospital.

The West Sulawesi Provincial Government has deployed heavy machinery to clear roads earlier obstructed by landslide material, though cleanup efforts are still ongoing.
