Solo, Central Java (ANTARA) - Graduates of teacher professional education programs (PPG) must remain prepared to work in disadvantaged and remote areas of the country.

Director general of teachers, education personnel, and teacher education at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Nunuk Suryani, made the statement during the graduation ceremony of the teacher professional education program at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) here on Saturday.

"For PPG graduates who do not find vacancy here, there are in 3T (disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost) regions, which need it (human resources)," she said.

Suryani encouraged young PPG graduates to seize the opportunity.

"If there are no opportunities available here, you can still build a better Indonesia from anywhere," she added.

The government is committed to supporting teachers who are willing to work in these special regions. They will get faster promotions, special allowances, and salaries. Furthermore, they will be provided with housing and other benefits.

"There was the Indonesia Mengajar (Teaching for Indonesia) program. We want to adopt this, too. After two years of service, teachers who have worked in the regions can return to cities," she said.

Suryani emphasized that the experience gained from working in the regions would be invaluable, as teachers will have to be innovative and resourceful to create fun lessons for students.

However, despite the government's efforts to absorb teachers since 2021, the demand for teachers in the 3T areas has remained unmet. Since 2021, the government has struggled to fill vacancies in 3T regions.

Moreover, some human resources are not available to fill vacancies. "There is a surplus of math teachers, but there are no vocational education and special education teachers," she said.
