Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, said that his side got in touch with Google regarding the erroneous exchange rate information for the rupiah (IDR) on Google search.

According to him, Google has taken steps to correct the error.

"Yes, we have communicated with them, and I think they have fixed it," Patria said at the ANTARA Heritage Center here on Monday.

Earlier, Google attributed the mistake in the exchange rate information, which showed the rupiah to US dollar rate at Rp8,170.65 per US$1, to third-party conversion data.

Upon receiving the report, Google contacted the data provider to correct the error.

"We reached out to the data provider to resolve the issue as quickly as possible," a Google representative said in a written statement to ANTARA on Saturday.

ANTARA's monitoring on Saturday showed that the rupiah exchange rate remained at that level. Moreover, when the ANTARA team selected other currencies, such as the Euro, the exchange rate was incorrectly shown as Rp8,348.50 per one Euro, instead of the correct rate of Rp16,889.

On January 31, 2025, the rupiah exchange rate was down by 49 points, or 0.30 percent, at the close of trade, settling at Rp16,305 per US dollar from Rp16,257 per dollar earlier.

The Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) issued by Bank Indonesia on Friday also showed a decline in the rate to Rp16,312 per US dollar, down from Rp16,259 per dollar previously.

Meanwhile, on a separate occasion on Saturday, the head of Bank Indonesia's communication department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, said that the exchange rate of Rp8,170 per US dollar on Google was not the level it should be.

"We are coordinating with Google Indonesia regarding the error to immediately make the necessary corrections," he added.
