"We continue diplomatic efforts and other means," Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Minister Abdul Kadir Karding said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He emphasized that his ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are continuing to make the utmost efforts to secure the immediate return of the migrant workers.
However, he said that this will not be easy considering that the area where the migrant workers have been detained is a conflict area under the control of rebel forces.
"The area bordering Thailand, Myawaddy in Myanmar, is controlled by a rebel group," the minister expounded.
He also noted that his ministry does not have cooperation agreements with Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia for the placement of Indonesian migrant workers.
The workers who are currently trapped in Myanmar went there on tourist visas and obtained information about working in Myanmar from social media. Thus, the ministry does not have data on those workers.
"Nevertheless, we will do our best to protect them as part of our family," he said.
