"We aim to synergize for providing maximum protection to migrant workers abroad," Purwagandhi remarked on Friday.
The minister noted that his side could offer vocation-based assistance and data support to the migrant workers.
Meanwhile, Karding explained that the meeting also aims to ensure full protection for migrant workers before departing, during work, and after returning to Indonesia.
"We realize that our ministry cannot work alone. Hence, we need to collaborate with other parties, including the Transportation Ministry," he remarked.
According to Karding, the meeting generates three synergized points, with the first being ensuring the recording of all data of migrant workers working abroad.
"This point can protect our migrant workers if something happens to them. In practice, there are many sailors, fisheries, and trade (activities that) leave on their own. From the protection side, this is dangerous because we cannot control it," he pointed out.
The second point is the preparation of human resources to improve competence. Currently, the Transportation Ministry has 24 schools, including the Polytechnic of Shipbuilding.
"We can push our potential. The Transportation Ministry prepares the human resources, and our side can find the job market to send the resources," Karding remarked.
Addressing the final point of discussion, Karding observed that the movement of people and crowd control at port facilities remain suboptimal, requiring better management systems.
"We asked the Transportation Ministry to integrate their system at international ports and airports," he noted.
The minister is optimistic that this cooperation would increase protection for migrant workers and boost the country's foreign exchange.
"We are glad to know that the Transportation Ministry is open to us. We intend to protect our migrant workers and increase foreign exchange," Karding added.
