Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor has conveyed the Indonesian government's commitment to continue developing social protection programs for workers, including for non-wage recipient workers (BPU).

"The development of the social protection program includes the program governance and the organization of the management body," he said, according to a statement released by his office on Tuesday.

He made the statement at the "Social Security for Self-Employed and Platform Workers" seminar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Tuesday. The seminar was organized by the International Social Security Association (ISSA).

He said that the development of the social protection program is also related to participation, especially of those who are included in the BPU category, or those who do not receive wages from employers.

According to him, the program's development must continue to be pursued, considering the evolving types of work as well as forms of work relationships.

"We must continue to encourage BPU participation, so more employees are covered by the social protection program," he stressed.

Noor explained that BPU beneficiaries consist of employers, workers with no employment relationships or self-employed workers, including workers with partnership relationships and workers in other jobs who do not receive wages.

There are two mandatory BPU covers provided by the national insurer (BPJS Work), namely Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Insurance (JKM), besides a voluntary program called Old Age Security (JHT).

Noor further said that he participated in the seminar hoping to share experiences and knowledge related to the management of social protection programs.

The seminar, which is being held on August 27–28, 2024, is focusing on social security developments in Asia and the Pacific.
