Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Gennadievich Tolchenov exchanged views on multiple facets related to their countries' bilateral ties.

"We spoke about many topics to further enhance our nations' bilateral relations, including scholarships for Indonesian students in Russia," Ahmad remarked after receiving Tolchenove at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

During the meeting, the lawmaker and the ambassador also touched upon bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, and food security while advocating for stronger ties between the Indonesian and Russian parliaments.

"Our discussion covered a range of ideas that we will follow up on, including those concerning interparliamentary cooperation," he remarked, adding that the discussion's conclusions would be sent to both countries' presidents.

Furthermore, the parliamentarian confirmed having drawn attention to Indonesia's recent accession to the BRICS economic group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and other countries.

"Yes, we discussed that, and I extended appreciation to the Russian government for supporting Indonesia to obtain a full BRICS membership within a short period of time," the DPR deputy speaker remarked.

Ambassador Tolchenov, for his part, placed emphasis on the importance of Indonesia and Russia solidifying collaboration between their national assemblies.

Addressing reporters, he also highlighted that this year, the two nations celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of their harmonious diplomatic relations, which have expanded beyond political affairs.

He stated that Indonesia and Russia have been enjoying mutually beneficial cooperation in the economy, trade, military, culture, and education sectors.

Underlining education, the ambassador voiced the Russian government's commitment to increasing the scholarship quota for Indonesian citizens keen on continuing their studies in its educational institutions.
