"We aim to provide full support for the empowerment of local entrepreneurs by streamlining the licensing process, while still considering the associated risks," Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Todotua Pasaribu, said in a statement on Saturday.
He explained that easing the licensing process is expected to encourage local entrepreneurs to take a leading role in their own country, becoming both the drivers and beneficiaries of regional economic development.
As an example of the ministry’s support for local entrepreneurs, Pasaribu mentioned his recent discussions with the Indonesian Quartz Miners Association (HIPKI), recognizing Indonesia's potential to produce high-quality quartz sand in various regions.
"We need comprehensive information from various associations that represent numerous businesses. In this case, the quartz miners association raised concerns about land and licensing issues in quartz sand-producing areas across Indonesia," he said.
Meanwhile, HIPKI chairperson Ady Indra Pawennari noted that currently, there is a difference in Mineral Benchmark Prices (HPM) in various provinces, which is reducing the competitiveness of investment in the mining sector.
He also noted that inconsistencies in regional regulations and policies related to quartz mining remain a major concern for the association.
In addition, he highlighted the issue of the mining licensing process, which takes up to three years. This is deemed not in line with the needs of investors who want a large and sustainable supply of raw materials.
