Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy for industry and investment at the Ministry of Tourism, Rizki Handayani Mustafa, has informed that the government is currently carrying out reform to develop the tourism sector and realize sustainable tourism.

"The government is currently carrying out a restructuring or reform of all sectors, including tourism," she said at the National Conference of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), which was aired on Tuesday.

Mustafa said that the government is seeking to improve tourism regulations and management and address tourism-related issues so that the sector can make a greater contribution to the country's economic growth.

The Ministry of Tourism is also coordinating with other ministries and institutions to develop tourism and realize sustainable tourism.

She affirmed that throughout 2025, her ministry will implement flagship programs, including the Clean Tourism Movement (GWB), digitalization and utilization of artificial intelligence, development of marine tourism and medical tourism, and improvement of tourism villages.

Apart from that, she said, the government is also seeking to boost tourism promotion to attract more tourists and increase state revenue from the tourism sector.

PHRI chairperson Hariyadi B. Sukamdani expressed the hope that the government will pay greater attention to the tourism sector as one of the drivers of economic growth.

He also highlighted the important role of the government in advancing Indonesia's tourism sector so that it can compete with neighboring countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.

Earlier, Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana expressed optimism regarding the tourism sector's potential to positively influence the national economy and generate more employment opportunities in the future.

"I am optimistic that the development of the tourism sector can continue and further encourage the contribution of the tourism sector to the growth of the national GDP (gross domestic product)," she said.
