Farid F. Saenong, a special staff member to the Minister of Religious Affairs, said on Sunday that the creation of the curriculum, called the Love Curriculum, is inseparable from social issues in the community that also relate to the education sector.
The curriculum is designed to ensure that no madrasa student feels entitled to discriminate against minority groups or people of different religions, he explained.
He claimed that religious tolerance in Indonesia has received international recognition, citing former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who once said that Indonesia is a concrete example of a country where Islam and democracy coexist.
Saenong said that other leaders have also used Indonesia as a model for gender equality in the Muslim world.
He also reaffirmed one of the work contracts between Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar and President Prabowo Subianto before Umar was inaugurated as minister.
"The work contract seeks to make Indonesia the best example of creating peace in matters of religion, democracy, and welfare worldwide," he remarked.
