"I went to the State Secretariat Ministry to submit my resignation letter as Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology," Brodjonegoro stated when met by reporters at his office on Wednesday.
He resigned, citing underperformance during his four months while serving in the Red and White Cabinet.
"It may not be in accordance with the government's expectations. I would rather resign than be dismissed," he remarked.
Brodjonegoro said he had written the letter on Tuesday night to be submitted to the Ministry of State Secretariat and President Prabowo Subianto.
"(We need) sincere good work with no ulterior motives. If I cannot achieve that, I would rather resign," he emphasized.
On the same day, President Prabowo inaugurated Brian Yuliarto as Brodjonegoro's replacement in a ceremony at the State Palace in Jakarta.
Yuliarto was inaugurated based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 26/P of 2025 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of State Ministers of the Red and White Cabinet for 2024-2029.
"By the grace of God Almighty, the President of the Republic of Indonesia considers, remembers, decides, and determines to appoint Brian Yuliarto, Ph.D., as Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Red and White Cabinet for the remaining term of office 2024-2029," Deputy for Administrative Affairs of the State Secretary Ministry, Ninik Purwanti, remarked during the swearing-in ceremony.
Yuliarto won the Engineering Science award at the 2024 Habibie Prize for Superior Talent. He earlier held the position of Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation at ITB for the 2025-2030 period.
Furthermore, he ranks among the top two percent of scientists globally and is recognized as Indonesia's leading researcher in nanoscience and nanotechnology.
