Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, envisions Indonesia creating its own artificial intelligence (AI) system akin to DeepSeek and ChatGPT.

"I think this is important. We should study DeepSeek, why not? It is not always expensive," Pandjaitan remarked at The Economic Insights 2025 event here on Wednesday.

The DEN chairman is confident that Indonesia possesses the skilled digital workforce necessary to develop similar technology systems.

Indonesian digital experts have developed public service applications such as PeduliLindungi, Simbara, and e-katalog.

Hence, he believes that not only the United States and China but Indonesia too can develop a system similar to DeepSeek and ChatGPT.

The DEN has four pillars related to government digital services or government technology (govtech).

The first pillar involves the optimization of state revenue, including taxes and non-tax state revenues (PNBP). The digital tools utilized in this pillar are Coretax for taxes and Simbara for PNBP related to minerals and coal.

The second pillar aims to enhance the efficiency of state spending, namely through the e-katalog system version 6.0.

The system incorporates new features such as real-time monitoring, cross-ministry and government agency integration, automated needs analysis, and data-driven vendor evaluation to ensure targeted and waste-free state spending.

The third pillar is related to public services, such as civil administration, driver's licenses, passports, education, and health. Digital systems in this field are designed to reduce excessive bureaucracy and provide a simpler and faster experience for the public.

The last pillar concerns the ease of doing business through the Online Single Submission (OSS) system.

Pandjaitan echoed President Prabowo Subianto's keenness for govtech to be integrated by August 2025.
