"We have recruited a number of Indonesian youngsters who are currently working (on the AI service)," the council chairman remarked on the sidelines of the Indonesian Economic Summit 2025 in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He noted that the young talents are scheduled to present their digital project to President Prabowo Subianto in the next two weeks.
The former coordinating minister for maritime affairs and investment informed the media that the AI-powered digital platform would offer services in both Indonesian and English.
Pandjaitan then underlined that the creation and use of the Indonesia-made AI is expected to contribute to the country's push for digitization.
The DEN leader also highlighted that this type of project demands a significant budget due to its use of the open source software development model.
Earlier, on Monday (February 17), Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Nezar Patria stated that Indonesia had demonstrated its preparedness for the development and adoption of AI.
He noted that the Komdigi Ministry shared Indonesia's experience in undertaking the Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) with countries attending the AI Action Summit in Paris, France, last week.
Indonesia is the first Southeast Asian country to adopt the AI ecosystem assessment tool developed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
"Note that our participation in the Readiness Assessment Methodology for AI has garnered remarkable appreciation," he told the media at his office in Jakarta.
UNESCO began its assessment of Indonesia's AI ecosystem in May 2024 and announced its findings in October of the same year.
Following the assessment, the UN body provided several recommendations to Indonesia to advance its national AI landscape, including establishing a national agency dedicated to governing this digital technology and forging cross-sector coordination.
Indonesia was also advised to ensure equal access for its people to AI-related educational services and infrastructure to more effectively adopt AI.
Furthermore, the findings suggested that the Indonesian government engage researchers and startup companies from beyond Java Island in addressing matters concerning AI to pursue inclusive use of this cutting-edge technology.
