Agtas expressed his appreciation for the musicians' initiative to share the concerns of singers and songwriters and provide inputs about the royalty system, particularly the planned revision of the Copyright Law, which is being discussed in the House of Representatives (DPR).
"I thank Agnes and the other musicians for their input. We will consider this input in the discussion on the Copyright Law revision," he said at a press conference after the meeting.
He emphasized that the government is open to inputs from the public, not only from musicians but also academics and other stakeholders on the revision of the law.
He informed that his ministry has received inputs regularly, and after it gets the draft bill on the Copyright Law from the parliament, it will conduct further studies.
During the meeting, singer and songwriter Monica shared her views on royalty rights. She stressed the importance of building better understanding of existing regulations.
"Because I am an Indonesian citizen, I obey Indonesian law. Unfortunately, there are cases that confuse us, so I think this is a good opportunity to sit down so that we are all more aware of the law," she said.
Meanwhile, Maulana, a member of Gigi band, revealed that the main reason for the meeting was the uncertainty felt by musicians about the royalty system.
"We gathered here because there was no singers' union to oversee us, so several singers formed Vibrasi Suara Indonesia (VISI) and compiled a manifesto," he said.
Noah emphasized that VISI represents the voices of singers who want an immediate solution to the growing polemic on the royalty system.
"We want the government to mediate and resolve this problem so that there is clarity for all parties," he said.
