Bekasi, W. Java (ANTARA) - In line with its diplomatic policy, Indonesia is treading the middle ground in the global artificial intelligence race, marked by the booming growth of AI technology such as the United States' Open AI and China's DeepSeek.

Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid delivered the remarks during an event held at the Information and Communication Technology Training and Development Center (BPPTIK), Cikarang, West Java, on Wednesday.

The diplomacy emphasizes Indonesia's position, which does not side with any country, especially in the competition for AI technology development.

"Recently, there has been a lot of war between the US and China with the emergence of DeepSeek. Then, what is our position in this situation? Indonesia takes the middle position, according to our country's diplomacy," the minister said.

She further said that Indonesia must utilize technological advances from various regions of the world as widely as possible, and not only rely on technology from just one country.

"Without exception and without having to choose which block technology we use, we must have access to technology from all of these countries," she added.

According to the minister, Indonesia must not lag in the application of AI technology.

AI should be no longer considered a future technology, but rather a current reality that changes the way humans work and learn to innovate.

Meanwhile, cloud computing is the main foundation of the global digital ecosystem, she said. Cloud computing allows users to manage and access data and applications via the internet.

Earlier, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, along with Amazon Web Service (AWS), a cloud computing industry player in Indonesia, held a competition to showcase cloud computing-based AI innovations by vocational high school (SMK) students.

The works featured in the competition included an AI-based interior design solution, an application that provides information on tourist destinations in Indonesia, and an application called Story First, which provides a more interactive and enjoyable reading experience to users.

"We really appreciate this (competition) because it is part of the effort to accelerate digital transformation in Indonesia," Hafid said.
