"Earlier, Madam Megawati underscored that a governor also serves as a representative of the central government. For this reason, she urged us against ignoring the president's instructions," Rano told the media at Pramono's residence in South Jakarta on Thursday.
Megawati is also the chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), which backed the Pramono-Rano pair during last year's Jakarta gubernatorial election.
Bang Doel, as the deputy governor is popularly called, remarked that he had met with the former president to receive a briefing the other day.
Bang Doel then emphasized that he and Pramono would deliver on their campaign promises in tandem with implementing national programs.
"While Jakarta has its own programs, it remains vital that we support initiatives from the central government," he remarked.
Bang Doel, concurrently a seasoned actor, made these statements before proceeding to the Presidential Palace to participate in the simultaneous inauguration of all regional heads elected in the 2024 simultaneous local polls.
At the palace, President Prabowo took the oaths of office of 961 regional leaders, comprising 33 governors, 33 deputy governors, 363 district heads, 363 deputy district heads, 85 mayors, and 85 deputy mayors.
In his speech, the president underscored that this mass inauguration is historical for Indonesia, as the nation until now witnessed local leaders being inducted separately in their respective regions.
He also pushed the newly elected leaders to make all-out efforts to serve their people.
In accordance with the plan, the head of state will bring together the regional leaders to a retreat or briefing at the Military Academy, Magelang, Central Java, on February 21-28, 2025.
