Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Two Indonesian citizens sustained gunshot injuries to their legs after enduring captivity and torture in Myanmar, according to Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two individuals were among 46 victims of human trafficking repatriated by the government via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday night.

"There are no physical disabilities, but they have gunshot wounds in their legs," said the ministry's Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities, Judha Nugraha, on Friday.

He did not provide specific details regarding the victims' identities or the sequence of events leading to their injuries, only stating that they were victims of torture by a separatist group in Myawaddy, Myanmar.

The ministry confirmed that some of the victims who had been held captive were successfully rescued and evacuated to Indonesia, Nugraha said.

The 46 Indonesians were repatriated on Thursday night in two stages. Among them was a former member of the Indramayu Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD).

"This repatriation is the result of the government's hard work," he said.

According to Nugraha, 270 other Indonesians remain trapped in Myawaddy, and the ministry will repatriate them as soon as possible.

"We hope to conduct an in-depth investigation into the party responsible for sending them so that we can carry out law enforcement," he added.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Protection at the Ministry of Migrant Workers Protection, Rinardi, stated that the 46 repatriated migrant workers will be returned to their respective regions of origin.

The Ministry of Social Affairs will conduct data collection and assessments on them, he said.
