Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to repatriating another 92 Indonesians believed to be victims of human trafficking in Myawaddy, Myanmar.

"There are 92 Indonesian citizens in the process of being repatriated to Indonesia," the ministry's Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities, Judha Nugraha, stated in Tangerang on Friday.

According to Nugraha, some of the 92 Indonesians are migrant workers who were later subjected to confinement and torture in Myawaddy, Myanmar.

Nugraha stated that the Indonesian Embassy will soon evacuate and repatriate these individuals.

"There are also another 270 people whose complaints we have received, both from victims and their families. The number is quite large," he added.

Based on data and reports from the Indonesian Embassy and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian Police, most of the Indonesian citizens to be repatriated were working illegally as online gambling operators.

Nugraha also noted that some of them have also been known to be involved in human trafficking syndicates.

"Some are perpetrators, and some are active recruiters. Based on the information we received, the recruiter is an Indonesian citizen. We will conduct further investigation on this matter," he remarked.

Nugraha stated that as of February 2025, some 6,800 Indonesian citizens had been identified as being involved in human trafficking case syndicates and online gambling operations, with Myanmar being one of the 10 destination countries based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' records.

"In total, approximately 6,800 of our citizens are involved in online gambling, and the number continues to grow. Therefore, we strongly urge efforts to save our citizens from various countries," he emphasized.
