Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Hasan Nasbi, said the government's support aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to combat corruption.
"The government supports the law enforcement measures taken by the prosecutor's office. This is also part of the President's initiative to combat corruption," he said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Additionally, the government is encouraging state-owned energy firm Pertamina, the parent company of Patra Niaga, to improve its governance and become a more accountable and transparent company, he added.
"After all, Pertamina is a major national asset, one of Indonesia's economic pillars, and perhaps the only Indonesian company included in the Fortune 500," he pointed out.
He emphasized the importance of governance improvements not only at Pertamina but also across all state institutions and state-owned enterprises.
Regarding the legal proceedings of the case, Nasbi assured that the government would not interfere and fully entrusts the process to law enforcement authorities.
"We trust the legal process to law enforcement without any intervention. We believe our law enforcement agencies will handle this case fairly and transparently," he said.
The AGO has classified the fuel adulteration case as a corruption case involving Patra Niaga. It has been alleged that the company adulterated imported refined RON 90 (equivalent to Pertalite) to create RON 92 (equivalent to Pertamax).
However, Pertamina has denied the allegations, stressing that there was no adulteration in Pertamax fuel.
The company assured that the quality of Pertamax complies with government specifications for RON 92.
This statement was later reinforced by a clarification from the AGO, which stated that there were no issues with the quality of Pertamax sold in the market.
