Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's State Logistics Agency (Bulog) has ensured that the national rice stocks are safe to meet people's needs until the end of this year's Ramadan so that supply stability can be maintained during the period.

Operational and Public Services Director of Bulog Mokhamad Suyamto, in his statement here on Sunday, explained that Bulog has prepared various measures to ensure the stability of rice supplies throughout Ramadan with the government's reserves and local production.

"Currently, the total rice stocks secured by Bulog approximately reached 1.9 million tons," he said.

He further said that Bulog has set a target for providing stocks until the end of Ramadan and has prepared precise plans so that the community does not need to worry about rice scarcity.

In addition to maintaining food price stability, Bulog will also carry out cheap food market operations in several regions to help keep the prices of commodities including rice and sugar under control during Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

Suyamto noted that to maintain rice prices stable throughout Ramadan, Bulog will carry out price stabilization at the producer and consumer levels.

He added that cheap food market operations are carried out in various strategic locations in coordination with regional governments, state-owned postal company Pos Indonesia, state-run food holding ID FOOD, and other state-owned enterprises to expand the coverage.

Apart from maintaining stocks and price stability, Bulog is also tasked with purchasing paddy from farmers' production to maintain national food security, he said.

This is aimed at ensuring rice supplies remain safe and also providing fair prices for farmers.

Furthermore, he emphasized Bulog's commitment to ensuring smooth distribution of food and maintaining price stability across the country.

Suyamto expressed optimism that with those measures, Bulog can support the government's policies in realizing robust food security and providing direct benefits to consumers and farmers.
