Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno has expressed support for President Prabowo Subianto's commitment to eradicating corruption, including the alleged crude oil management corruption within the state-owned oil and gas company, Pertamina.

"This Pertamina case is not only suspected of causing financial losses to the state but could also impact the general public if it is proven that consumers have been buying adulterated fuel," he said in a statement issued on Sunday.

Earlier, President Prabowo assured that law enforcement efforts would be carried out against corruption in crude oil and refinery product management within Pertamina.

He also emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that all ongoing legal efforts serve to protect the interests of the people.

Soeparno described Prabowo's statement as a breath of fresh air for corruption eradication in the country. He expressed optimism that the president will root out corruption entirely.

He further noted that over the past 15 years, Prabowo has consistently made corruption eradication a priority in his programs, vision, and mission while running for the presidency.

"With the president's strict oversight of corruption, we are optimistic that state-owned enterprises and other government agencies will strengthen their internal monitoring systems to prevent similar cases in the future," he remarked.

Additionally, he encouraged authorities to use the investigation into the alleged Pertamina corruption case as an opportunity to improve fuel production and distribution management.

This is particularly important, he noted, because the case involves not only imported products but also government-subsidized fuel.
