Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal appealed to the government, especially regional administrations, to swiftly assist people impacted by floods in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).

"Operations to save people must be prioritized. Regional governments must be responsive and alert in helping their residents affected by flooding," he noted in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Syamsurijal also requested all regional governments whose residents were affected by floods to prepare proper evacuation posts equipped with facilities for children, pregnant or breastfeeding mothers, and older adults.

Furthermore, he instructed joint officers to ensure thorough and ongoing evacuations, stressing that public safety must be a top priority in managing the floods.

"Make sure all residents stranded by floods are evacuated immediately. Public safety must be a priority," the legislator emphasized.

Syamsurijal also requested that the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agencies (BPBD) and the relevant provincial governments promptly clear all previously inundated routes to prevent disruptions to public mobility.

Earlier, the Ministry of Social Affairs allocated a budget of Rp3 billion (around USD183.7 thousand) to distribute assistance to residents affected by floods that hit several areas in Jabodetabek.

Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf noted that disaster-handling personnel from various parties have been deployed to the flood-hit locations, such as Jatiasih, Bekasi, Bogor, and parts of Jakarta.
