"President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono to oversee the construction of the giant sea wall and formation of a task force for Pantura's handling," Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti stated here on Wednesday.
She noted that the task force would include officials from her ministry, the Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Ministry, and other relevant stakeholders, including regional governments.
According to Kusumastuti, the plan is to build a giant sea wall stretching approximately 946 kilometers from Tangerang in Banten Province to Gresik in East Java Province, which will require substantial investment funds.
"This project will involve the private sector for funding rather than relying solely on the APBN (state budget)," she stated while referring to the state budget.
She highlighted that the project's execution would likely result in new sources of income and facilitate the construction of additional floating solar power plants along the coastline.
The deputy minister further explained that the government views the giant sea wall or embankment as a crucial measure for mitigating the impacts of gradual land subsidence observed across the Pantura region.
She remarked that the project is also part of the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) program, which involves collaboration between the Ministry of Public Works and the Jakarta provincial government in constructing coastal and river embankments.
Meanwhile, Presidential Regulation No. 12 of 2025, concerning the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), has identified the giant sea wall initiative as a strategic national project for that period.
