Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced his plan to establish a prison on a remote island dedicated to penalizing corrupt individuals for their severe offenses against the Indonesian nation.

"I will also allocate a budget to build a prison in a secluded location, from where it will be impossible for corruptors to escape," he remarked at the headquarters of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Jakarta on Thursday.

Prabowo extensively discussed the detrimental impact of corrupt practices on society, highlighting that those involved in such crimes have been among the biggest obstacles to national development efforts.

He emphasized that teachers, doctors, medical workers, and farmers have suffered the most from the negative consequences of the unethical misappropriation of state funds by these corrupt individuals.

Bearing this in mind, he noted that his directive for budget efficiency across state institutions is essentially intended to ensure that state funds are utilized exclusively to improve the welfare of the people and protected from misuse by irresponsible entities.

Although acknowledging opposition to the budget cuts, the president asserted that his administration is on the right track due to its genuine commitment to elevating the living standards of the Indonesian people.

Furthermore, the head of state reiterated that he would not back down in his fight against corruption in the country.

"I will not retreat from the battle against corruptors. They (corruptors) should be aware that I am willing to die for this nation and this state. I fear no mafias since I have the police chief, the military commander, and teachers on my side," he said.

He also expressed hope that the education sector would contribute to the government's efforts to eradicate corruption for national progress.

The president made these remarks while launching a new mechanism to distribute allowances for teachers with civil servant status in regions.
