"We will issue a circular to all parties responsible for waste handling," Nurofiq remarked after conducting an inspection and waste clean-up action at the Tomang Barat Market, along with Minister of Trade Budi Santoso here on Friday.
Besides issuing a circular, his side will inspect several crucial points, including crowded areas, such as markets.
"We will check the (waste) point source to ensure the principles of cleanliness. This means that heads of environmental offices have a heavier task now," Nurofiq added.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH) introduced a similar initiative last year with the "Minimal Waste Homecoming" program, integrating it into the national homecoming program organized by other ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Transportation.
Furthermore, a similar approach was adopted during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 holiday period with the issuance of the Minister of Environment's Circular No. 1 of 2024 regarding Waste Control during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 Celebrations.
The government also implements the "Minimal Waste Homecoming/Holiday" program.
This measure was implemented following the government's prioritization of waste management, which is one of the key issues to be addressed.
Several steps have been taken, including the closure of open dumping landfills or those that carry out open waste disposal, as well as several illegal landfills, which was followed by the criminal prosecution of several of their operators.
