Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi emphasized the importance of using digital transformation to improve the comfort and experience of public transportation users.

"Contactless payment innovation is one of the strategic steps for encouraging people to switch from private vehicles to public transportation," he said at the launch of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) Tap at Bundaran HI MRT Station, Jakarta, on Friday.

He affirmed that his ministry fully supports digital transformation efforts in the transportation sector, including the launch of digital-based payments such as QRIS Tap.

"This system provides a new experience for people. It is hoped that this innovation will be a catalyst for the community to switch from private vehicles to public transportation," he said.

The QRIS Tap at MRT stations allows users to make transactions without manually scanning the QR code. Simply by bringing their device close to the scanner, users can access public transportation faster and more easily.

In addition, the innovation can encourage financial inclusion and accelerate digitalization in the transportation and payment sectors.

The minister emphasized that the digitalization of payments in transportation is a strategic step to improve the ease of people's access to public transportation and create a mobility ecosystem that is more efficient.

According to Purwagandhi, the launch of the QRIS Tap at Bundaran HI MRT Station is a concrete form of collaboration between the digital payment service and transportation sectors.

He underlined that the innovation is in line with the Asta Cita missions of President Prabowo Subianto and part of the government's efforts to improve access to public transportation, support financial inclusion, and accelerate digital transformation in the transportation and payment sectors.

To realize more modern public transportation, he urged all public transportation operators to adopt the QRIS Tap system as soon as possible.

"The application of this technology is expected to improve transportation services in various regions by still prioritizing the aspects of security and comfort for the community," Purwagandhi said.
