Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said that his ministry is expecting the peak of the 2025 Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus to occur on March 28, with 12.1 million people predicted to travel on that date.

This was conveyed by the minister during the Coordination Meeting for the 2025 Eid al-Fitr Transportation Preparations in Jakarta on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Eid al-Fitr return flow is predicted to peak on April 6, 2025, with the potential number of travelers pegged at 31.49 million.

The Ministry of Transportation, through the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT), has conducted a survey regarding the potential for community movement during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr period, in collaboration with survey institute Litbang Kompas.

The survey results show that during this year's Eid al-Fitr holiday, the number of travelers is predicted to reach 146.48 million, equivalent to 52 percent of the total population of Indonesia.

Purwagandhi said that the survey's results have been reported to President Prabowo Subianto and shared with relevant stakeholders, including regional governments and the House of Representatives (DPR).

"In response to the emergence of these figures, we have held coordination meetings with various parties, such as ministers, regional leaders, leaders of state-owned enterprises, and the private sector," he said.

This step, he added, is aimed at ensuring the community can travel safely, comfortably, and smoothly during the Eid al-Fitr period.

He further said that the government will apply effective policies to anticipate a surge in homebound travelers that could cause congestion at transportation hubs and roads.

The policies include the work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy, free homecoming exodus travel, traffic engineering, and traffic management, especially in areas with high risks of congestion.
