"For safety, the Ministry of Transportation has continued to escalate ramp checks on means of transportation," he informed in a statement released by his office on Wednesday.
Purwagandhi said that, as of March 8, 2025, the ministry has conducted such checks on 18,746 buses, 660 ships, at least 270 airplanes, 1,547 locomotives, and 70 ferries across the country.
He added that the Ministry of Transportation has also made preparations to anticipate the possibility of heavy traffic flows occurring earlier than the predicted peak date for homecoming travel.
"The peak of the homecoming flow is likely to occur on March 28, 2025. However, given that the government has agreed on a work-from-anywhere scheme, we have taken measures to anticipate heavy traffic, which is expected to begin on Friday, March 21, 2025," he explained.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized the need to pay special attention to handling traffic in tourist attractions at homecoming destinations, railroad level crossings, and "pasar tumpah" – informal temporary markets that often emerge spontaneously in public spaces not designated for commercial use.
He then highlighted the tendency for heavy vehicle traffic at several ferry facilities, most notably Merak Port in Banten province, Bakauheni Port in Lampung province, Ketapang Port in East Java province, and Gilimanuk Port in Bali province.
"We have established collaboration with multiple regional governments to anticipate heavy traffic in these locations. Additionally, we have requested security measures from local police and governments," he disclosed.
Purwagandhi said that his office is collaborating with other ministries, regional governments, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector to ensure that the 2025 homecoming travel period runs smoothly.
