Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi is preparing three crossing zones at Merak, Banten, to support the smooth flow of traffic during this year's Eid homecoming.

"We divide it into three zones. The zone at Merak Port is specifically for private vehicles and public transportation such as buses," he said here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, for heavy goods vehicles, the government has prepared a zone at Bandar Bakau Jaya Port, Bojonegara.

"In addition, for motorbikes and goods transportation with a smaller capacity, they can cross from the Ciwandan Port," the minister said.

"With such arrangement, we hope there will be no build-up of queues of vehicles (crossing from Merak)," he added.

In coordination with the Banten provincial government, the ministry has prepared Merak Port, Ciwandan Port, Bandar Bakau Jaya Port, and Pelindo II to serve the public during the Eid homecoming period.

To anticipate the increase in the number of homecoming travelers, the Transportation Ministry will also consider increasing the strength of fleets.

Purwagandhi said he hopes that the Banten provincial government will provide buffer areas where homecoming travelers can rest and regulate smooth traffic flow.
