"Currently, women still face challenges in various sectors, particularly in the economic sector," the ministry's Deputy for Gender Equality, Amurwani Dwi Lestariningsih, said in a statement here on Sunday.
To encourage inclusive economic development, Indonesia promotes women's empowerment through the development of the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector, she said.
Through the MSME development, the Indonesian government encourages women to be economically independent.
"However, the gender gap in digital access remains a challenge," Lestariningsih said at the 69th session of CSW 69, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from March 10 to 21 under the chairmanship of Saudi Arabia.
Therefore, she stated that digital access for MSMEs managed by women is one of the efforts to develop the economy.
She called for support to ensure that MSMEs, managed by women, continue to grow and become economically independent.
"To improve digital access, Indonesia has been implementing the National Action Plan for Digital Economic Development," she said.
In addition, she noted that her ministry also published the Digital Transformation Guidelines for Women in 2022 as a guide for digital development specifically for women.
"Through the program, the Indonesian government is working to increase women's participation in the digital economy by providing capability-building training for them through collaboration with various stakeholders," she explained.
For example, there is a partnership program in Semarang, Central Java, with UN Women and Gojek that successfully trained 50 women entrepreneurs to enhance their market access.
In the 2024-2029 period, the ministry is developing the Indonesian Common Space (RBI) as a community-based program.
The program is expected to support women entrepreneurs, especially in rural areas, by providing a space for discussion, mentoring, training, and access to technology.
