Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi shared best practices in women's empowerment during a meeting with Timor-Leste's Secretary of State for Equality, Elvina Sousa Carvalho.

"We have launched the Indonesian Common Space (RBI) pilot project at six locations representing all parts of Indonesia. This idea has been well-received and independently replicated by other regions," Fauzi remarked in the ministry's statement here on Wednesday.

She elaborated that RBI is a collaborative movement involving all elements of society and village-based stakeholders to work together to implement programs focusing on women and children, rooted in local wisdom and executed holistically, integratively, and sustainably.

The six RBI pilot sites include Kampung Jimpitan Village, Banten Province; Desa Ayula Selatan Village in Bone Bolango; Gorontalo; Mendalo Darat Village, Jambi; Kampung Cempluk Village in Malang, East Java; Oesapa Barat in East Nusa Tenggara; and Pulau Sewangi Village, South Kalimantan.

In addition to RBI, the ministry has two priority programs aimed at addressing issues related to women and children focused at the village level, namely expanding the function of the SAPA call center at 129 and introducing a gender data initiative for women and children based on villages.

In addition to discussing the best practices and issues related to women’s economic empowerment, Minister Fauzi and Carvalho also addressed matters surrounding the participation of women in central and regional governance.

Timor-Leste has made notable progress in increasing women's participation in parliament, which currently surpasses the affirmative action threshold of 36.9 percent.

Both officials also discussed the prospect of reactivating the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and Timor-Leste, which was initially signed in 2012.
