Jakarta (ANTARA) - Legislator Amelia Anggraini has asked that the new Military (TNI) Law, which seeks to extend the armed forces' authority, be strictly monitored to avoid any violation of civil rights.

"The Parliament emphasizes that this expansion of authority must be conducted carefully, respecting democratic principles, and must not exceed the limits that could disrupt civilian supremacy," she said in a press release received by ANTARA here on Thursday.

Anggraini added that her faction agrees with the substance of the TNI Law draft as it could strengthen the military's position in protecting the state.

She said she believes the law will provide a clear legal basis for the TNI to enhance cyber defense in response to modern security challenges such as cyber warfare and hybrid warfare.

Regarding the TNI's authority to enter civilian positions, she considers this appropriate for several agencies, as regulated by law.

"For civilian positions apart from the 14 specific positions, we emphasize that active TNI members who will occupy them must first resign or retire from their active military service to ensure their military status is genuinely separated when undertaking civilian duties," she stressed.

The 14 ministries and government agencies where active soldiers can hold positions based on the new military law are:

1. Coordinator for Politics and National Security,
2. National Defense, including the National Defense Council,
3. State Secretariat handling Presidential and Military Secretariat affairs,
4. State Intelligence,
5. Cyber and Crypto Agency,
6. National Resilience Agency,
7. National Search and Rescue (SAR),
8. National Anti-Narcotics Agency,
9. Supreme Court,
10. Border Management Agency,
11. Disaster Mitigation Agency,
12. Counter-Terrorism Agency,
13. Maritime Security Agency, and
14. Attorney General's Office.
