Serang, Banten (ANTARA) - Banten Governor Andra Soni emphasized that the province's free school program will commence in the new academic year 2025/2026 for new students.

"This free school initiative aims to improve the quality of human resources in Banten Province," Soni said in the provincial government's statement here on Friday.

He explained that the free school program is the provincial government's flagship initiative. Free schooling will be implemented in high schools (SMA), vocational schools (SMK), religious schools (SKh), and Madrasah Aliyah (high school under the Religious Affairs Ministry), both public and private.

Soni stated that currently, 1,200 schools are set to participate in the free education program.

He said this free school program is expected to broaden educational access for the community.

Governor Soni remarked that the Banten provincial government is also currently drafting several regulations for the free school program.

"I ask for the support from all the people of Banten so that we can successfully implement the free school program in Banten," he remarked.

On that occasion, he visited the regional offices of the Law Ministry, Immigration Office, and the Directorate General of Corrections, and Human Rights Office.

Soni also invited all parties to collaborate on other programs that his administration will be implementing to boost the province's advancement.

"Let us collaborate for a progressive Banten that is just, equitable, and free from corruption," he remarked.

The governor's visit coincided with a charity event during the month of Ramadan organized by several agencies. A total of 200 Ramadan packages were distributed to the underprivileged and orphaned children.
