While visiting the site, he emphasized that the homecoming flow management system at the port was functioning effectively and that the implemented policies successfully minimized congestion.
"We came to ensure the readiness of ASDP Indonesia Ferry in welcoming homecoming travelers. I ensured there was no congestion at Merak Port. The Work From Anywhere (WFA) scheme helps to evenly distribute transportation flow," he noted in a statement on Tuesday.
A survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT) predicts homecoming travel will begin on March 21 and continue to increase until D-3 of Eid or March 28, 2025.
Meanwhile, the National Police's Head of Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryo Nugroho, announced that the Ketupat Operation commenced on March 23, prioritizing security along homecoming routes, including at Merak Port.
He noted that the WFA policy has had a positive effect, as reflected by the trend of more evenly distributed vehicle volumes, with an accumulated increase of 42 percent compared to last year.
Data from his office shows a notable rise in traffic on toll and arterial roads, with a 37 percent increase on D-10 and 22 percent on D-9.
In the same statement, President Director of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, Heru Widodo, said his side sees an increasing trend in the number of homecoming travelers compared to the previous year. Data reveals a 14.7 percent rise in travelers on D-10 this year compared to last year, with an almost 80 percent surge observed on D-9.
In addition to assessing the homecoming traffic at Merak Port, Minister Purwagandhi also inspected the flow of goods transportation at Bandar Bakau Jaya (BBJ) Port in Bojonegoro on Monday (March 24) to ensure smooth logistics following their relocation from Merak Port.
