"The House leadership has received a letter from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Numbered R-19/Pres/03/2025, concerning the appointment of government representatives to discuss the Draft Law on the Criminal Procedure Code," she said while leading a Plenary Meeting at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Maharani affirmed that the letter would be processed in accordance with DPR Regulation Number 1 of 2020 concerning the Rules of Procedure and the applicable mechanisms.
Maharani remarked that the discussion on the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code falls under the jurisdiction of Commission III of the House of Representatives, which serves as the council's supporting instrument responsible for law enforcement.
"This is the domain or function of Commission III, but we will only decide later after the opening of the upcoming meeting,” she stated.
Earlier, Commission III of the House of Representatives said it would immediately roll out discussions on the Draft Law on Amendments to Law Number 8 of 1981 concerning the Criminal Procedure Code with the government, following the receipt of the Presidential Letter regarding the revision of the law on Thursday (March 20).
"The final draft of the Criminal Procedure Code will be discussed immediately because the Presidential Letter was issued today and has been signed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto," Chairman of Commission III of DPR Habiburokhman stated at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on March 20.
He also aimed to complete the discussion of the draft law within a relatively short timeframe, as it does not contain too many articles.
On March 24, Commission III of the House of Representatives began holding a public hearing with several experts to gather inputs regarding the Draft Law on the Criminal Procedure Code.
