"As part of the efforts to protect and promote ASEAN culture, Indonesia supports the development of the ASEAN Heritage List to identify and document cultural and heritage elements with important value in the ASEAN region," he remarked in a statement received on Monday (March 24).
The ASEAN Heritage List aims to compile cultural heritage from member countries with a variety of cultural heritage.
This list is expected to bring greater recognition to cultural elements from ASEAN countries while ensuring their protection and promotion both regionally and globally.
The minister also called on ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn to strengthen collaboration among museums in ASEAN to create the ASEAN Heritage List.
During a meeting with Hourn on Monday, he also highlighted the importance of ASEAN's role as the core of the identity of the group of countries in Southeast Asia, including the role in preserving shared heritage, fostering cultural diplomacy, and encouraging cultural policy dialogue for peace and prosperity in the region.
According to Zon, ASEAN plays a vital role in enhancing regional unity and empowering communities through various cultural initiatives, including high-level meetings related to cultural heritage.
The minister then expressed his appreciation for the ASEAN secretary's commitment and efforts in strengthening cultural relations between Indonesia and member countries to realize the vision of a dynamic and globally competitive cultural community.
"Through close cooperation, I hope various cultural initiatives that have been designed can further strengthen ASEAN's identity at the international level," he remarked.
Zon also affirmed that by building stronger synergies in preserving cultural heritage, promoting art, and fostering innovation in the creative industry, ASEAN could gain greater recognition as a region with cultural diversity that has global appeal.
