Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from President of the New Development Bank (NDB) Dilma Vana Rousseff at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Rousseff and her entourage arrived at the Merdeka Palace at approximately 4:08 p.m. local time, where they were greeted by honor guards in the courtyard.

President Prabowo welcomed the former president of Brazil on the palace's terrace before escorting her to the Credential Room.

The two leaders then shook hands and posed for a photo session in front of journalists.

The two then proceeded to the president's office for a bilateral meeting alongside their respective delegations.

“When did you arrive in Indonesia?” Prabowo asked Rousseff, who replied that she had landed in the country the previous day.

Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya accompanied the Indonesian head of state during the meeting.

Before her meeting with Prabowo, Rousseff had met with the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, earlier on the same day.

During that meeting, Hartarto briefed the NDB president on the Indonesian government's priority missions—collectively called the Asta Cita—including energy security, food self-sufficiency, and equal access to clean water.

“Currently, Indonesia is implementing the Free Nutritious Meals program at various education levels nationwide, aiming to stimulate rural economies and create multiplier effects,” Hartarto told Rousseff at his office in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Rousseff invited Indonesia to join the NDB, a multilateral development bank established by the founding member states of the BRICS group, to which Indonesia recently acceded.

While Indonesia was first invited to join the bank in 2022, it is still reviewing the membership process.

Founded in July 2014 and headquartered in Shanghai, China, the NDB's primary objective is to fund infrastructure construction and sustainable development projects in developing countries.

The bank also advocates for industrialization processes to create job opportunities and ultimately address the poverty-related issues such countries face.
