"We have not received any official request from any party asking for the presence of Indonesian peacekeeping troops on the border of Russia and Ukraine," the ministry's spokesperson, Rolliansyah Soemirat, said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He made the statement in response to reports about a proposal suggesting that Indonesia contribute to a UN peacekeeping mission to maintain security along the border, if Russia and Ukraine reach a ceasefire agreement.
No consensus on the proposal has been reached among the international community.
However, Soemirat emphasized that the Indonesian government will continue to closely monitor ongoing talks involving the warring parties about a potential ceasefire agreement.
Indonesia remains committed to its supportive stance on prioritizing inclusive discussions to end the protracted armed conflict, he said.
On a separate occasion, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono made a similar statement and urged all parties to resort to peaceful and inclusive measures to resolve the conflict.
"We are advocating for open dialogues and inclusive multilateral mechanisms," he said at a press conference after meeting with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The remarks stemmed from reports mentioning the possibility of the United Nations approving the deployment of multinational peacekeeping troops to the war zone after Russia and Ukraine agree to cease hostilities.
Quoting the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Ukrainian media reported that Ukraine's allies have proposed the deployment of a UN-mandated peacekeeping contingent comprising soldiers from Indonesia, India, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia.
It has been said that the peacekeeping group will operate alongside a coalition of forces from European nations and be tasked with securing Ukraine's borders with the European Union.
