They were identified by the initials FN and GC.
Director of immigration supervision and enforcement, Yuldi Yusman, informed that the arrests were made in response to a request submitted by the Chinese Embassy to the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration through a diplomatic note.
"FN and GC were arrested from two different locations in South Jakarta," Yusman said in a statement released on Saturday.
Based on facial recognition analysis, on March 15, an immigration team conducted surveillance at an address in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, where the two Chinese nationals were suspected to be residing.
However, the team only found FN, as GC was based in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area in North Jakarta.
However, when they checked that location, GC was nowhere to be found, and his secretary, identified as NT, said he would cooperate and report GC's whereabouts as soon as the opportunity arose.
On March 16, the immigration team successfully arrested GC in South Jakarta.
FN and GC were in Indonesia on limited stay permits for foreign workers (ITAS TKA).
The two were detained at the Directorate General of Immigration's detention room because they did not have valid documents.
The Xiangshui Public Security Bureau in China is said to have issued a Detention Warrant and a Certificate of Cancellation of their Passports on March 4.
They were repatriated to China on March 27 on China Eastern Airlines.
"Immigration will conduct developments related to the company that sponsored the two perpetrators; if they are guilty, we will also take action," Yusman informed.
Meanwhile, acting director general of immigration, Saffar Muhammad Godam, said that FN and GC were charged under Article 75 of Law Number 6 of 2011.
The article stipulates that administrative immigration actions in the form of deportation and travel bans can be carried out against foreigners coming to Indonesia to avoid threats and punishment in their home country.
He informed that his party is committed to working with the relevant stakeholders in law enforcement and joint investigations, in line with the directive of the Minister of Immigration.
According to Godam, the success in securing the two foreign nationals cannot be separated from the strong coordination and cooperation between the Indonesian and Chinese governments in handling perpetrators of crimes.
