Eyewitness accounts and data collected by the Ministry of Social Affairs revealed that a loud cracking sound preceded the tree's sudden fall into the square, which was packed with residents preparing to join the Eid al-Fitr prayer.
The ministry's report noted that nothing suspicious was found near the tree before its collapse, which occurred under clear weather conditions without wind.
Police Adjunct Chief Commissioner Eko Sunaryo at the Pemalang Police announced that the local authority will bear the cost of treating the injured victims.
