Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Alms Agency (Baznas) has sent 16 thousand aid packages, weighing 19.7 tons and worth Rp2.5 billion or around US$150 thousand, for earthquake survivors in Myanmar.

"We have ensured that the assistance sent is in accordance with the needs of the (earthquake) survivors in Myanmar," Baznas chairperson Noor Achmad said in a statement released here on Thursday.

He emphasized that his side is committed to humanitarian actions, both domestic and international.

The aid consists of 100 generators, 50 tents, 10 thousand sarongs, one thousand hygiene kits for women and children, five thousand blankets, 50 tarpaulins, and essential medicines required by quake-affected communities in Myanmar.

"In addition to logistical aid, we are also dispatching a medical team from the Baznas Healthy House (RSB) consisting of five members, and five members of the Baznas disaster response team (BTB) who will assist in helping victims," he informed.

He expressed the hope that the aid will ease the burden on earthquake-affected communities in Myanmar, while strengthening solidarity between Indonesia and Myanmar in facing emergency situations.

"The government and Baznas will continue to monitor the distribution process to ensure that the aid reaches its target," Achmad said.

On the same occasion, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono said that the aid delivery is a gesture of solidarity from the Indonesian people to the people of Myanmar.

He informed that a total of 124 tons of aid, worth USD1.2 million, has been sent to Myanmar so far.

"We hope that the assistance, including medicines, sanitation supplies, and basic necessities, can alleviate the suffering of the people of Myanmar affected by the earthquake," he said.
