During a video conference with US Republican Representative Carol Miller on Tuesday, Hartarto highlighted the importance of Indonesia's position in the Indo-Pacific and the country's strategic role in several multilateral forums such as ASEAN, G20, and APEC.
"Indonesia truly appreciates the good bilateral relations with the US, both in economic cooperation and other forms," he noted in a statement here on Friday.
Hartarto remarked that Indonesia hopes to sustain trade cooperation with the US in essential food commodities, such as soybean and wheat, to support domestic food security.
With its strategic role, Indonesia is deemed able to open up opportunities for cooperation with the US in various sectors, including investment and trade in strategic commodities between the two countries.
In addition to trade cooperation in strategic food commodities, Hartarto also highlighted that potential cooperation in clean economy initiatives, such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and critical minerals, can be continued going forward.
"Strategic cooperation with the US in these two sectors can significantly boost Indonesia's position in the clean economy sector and global critical mineral supply chain," Hartarto remarked.
In this regard, Congresswoman Miller affirmed that the US would prioritize cooperation, regional stability, and security in its relations with Indonesia under President Trump's administration.
Miller expressed appreciation for Indonesia's important role in the Indo-Pacific and ASEAN and stated that the US will maintain its sound bilateral relations with the country.
