In a statement received here on Sunday, he expressed optimism that the Indonesian government would not ease its domestic component level (TKDN) policy as feared by business players.
"The TKDN policy must be continued and not be eased for a certain country," he highlighted.
According to him, the TKDN policy is not only created to protect but also to build the domestic industry so that imported goods do not dominate the domestic market.
Nevertheless, he noted that if the policy is considered an obstacle by Indonesia's trading partners, the diplomacy team formed by the government would give a comprehensive explanation.
He also expressed optimism that the strategy of President Prabowo Subianto in responding to the trade protectionism of the US will strengthen Indonesia's position in the global economy.
"President Prabowo's policies, which cover the expansion of trade partner networks, the improvement of local products' competitiveness, and diversification of the export market, are the right strategy. This will maintain national economic stability amid the dynamic changes of the global trade," he remarked.
He further stressed that the import tariff policy of the US must not disrupt the acceleration of downstreaming and industrialization in Indonesia.
"We support the commitment of President Prabowo to accelerate downstreaming as an effort to increase the value of mineral products and natural resources in Indonesia," Soeparno said.
President Trump on Wednesday announced "reciprocal" tariffs on a number of countries, including Indonesia, which is slapped with a 32 percent import tariff.
The Trump administration has also imposed a 10 percent baseline tariff on imports from all countries.
