"We should be grateful that Mr Prabowo Subianto, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, is paying special attention to the modernization of TNI-AU's defense equipment and systems," he remarked during the Air Force's 79th anniversary celebration in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Harjono highlighted that the president's determination to enhance Indonesia's capacity to protect its airspace is evident in the scheduled arrival of various modern battle equipment.
The marshal emphasized the importance of modernizing military equipment and systems to counter the ever-evolving threats to national security.
In light of this, he stressed the need to ensure that Indonesia is capable of surviving non-conventional warfare, which may involve cyber attacks and threats posed remotely through drones.
Addressing cyber threats specifically, Harjono noted that this form of warfare could bypass the security of data essential to the country.
"Bearing this in mind, the Indonesian Air Force must be prepared in every aspect to the best extent," he stressed.
The TNI-AU chief then expressed hope that President Prabowo's support would strengthen the military institution, enhancing its capability to safeguard Indonesia's sovereignty.
It was reported that the Air Force is set to receive various defense equipment procured from multiple countries this year, including Rafale fighter jets from France. The TNI-AU has already begun training its engineers and pilots in preparation for the French aircraft.
In November 2025, the Air Force is expected to receive heavy transport aircraft Airbus A400M. Additionally, Indonesia plans to replace Chinese-made CH4 drones with Anka drones manufactured in Turkiye.
To address cybersecurity concerns, the TNI-AU has established the Cyber Education Squadron 506 in Bogor, West Java.
